My Journey to Becoming a Decluttering Coach and a Professional Organizer
From a messy kid to a neat freak
As a kid I used to shove all my clothes into my wardrobe and hold them while closing the door so they wouldn’t all fall out. My mom loved to open the door on the days I was invited to a party, watch everything drop on the floor and say, “You can’t go until you organize everything”. Oh, how I used to hate it when she did that! Fast forward to high school, and I was the neatest kid on the block. Strange as it is, I find nothing more satisfying than organizing since then.
The day I decided to become a professional organizer…
My close friend’s husband left the house one day and never came back. A few months later I suggested that we declutter her home and make it her home. We were almost done with it when she turned to me and said, “ You should make a living out of this. You’re so good at it. I could have never done this”. I said, “Of course, you could! But yeah, I love organizing.” She looked at me dead in the eye and with the most serious tone said, “No! I couldn’t! I’m serious”. I did not really understand how someone couldn’t do something as easy as organizing but as I was going to find out in the next few months, organizing causes major anxiety for most people (I feel the same way about event planning. My friend, who can’t stand organizing rooms, adores event planning. Go figure!)
A lot of people had told me over the years that I should become a professional organizer. Every time friends opened a closet to pick an outfit, the pantry to get us snacks, the garage to get us bikes, I mentally went into playing tetris with their belongings. I would completely zone out and organize their drawers and shelves in my
mind. It always sparked a conversation and next thing we knew, we were looking at our calendars to choose a day to bring my ideas to life. Each finished project was followed by “you should become a professional organizer”. Somehow it never clicked for me because they said the same thing about me and whatever new hobby I was exploring at the time.
Something was different this time. Two days after my friend made my new career suggestion, I purchased the domain and built this website in less than 2 days. I had just gotten out of a 17 year marriage and was figuring out my next steps so her words hit me in a different way on that beautiful November day. It was a no brainer! People say if you can make a living out of something that you are naturally adept at, you will play your whole life…who doesn’t want to play? What made organizing different from all my hobbies was that it was part of me. It was in my DNA. If I’m home and not cooking or dancing, I am most likely organizing. It calms my mind. It makes me happy. It makes me feel a sense of control. Now with clients, I get butterflies the night before just thinking about the organizing I am going to do for them the next day.
Why I’m Passionate About Decluttering and Organizing for Moms
As a single mom who’s walked the path of overwhelm, I understand the weight that clutter places on our lives. I know what it’s like to feel as if you’re carrying the entire household alone, handling endless decisions and daily messes. My journey with loss, healing, and discovering minimalism has shown me that decluttering isn’t just about “cleaning up”; it’s about creating a space that supports and uplifts you. When our surroundings are in order, we’re free to be more present with our kids, less stressed, and more connected to what truly matters.I believe every mom deserves a sanctuary that feels like hers - a home that’s functional, peaceful, and filled with things that align with her values. In my work, I help moms reclaim their time, energy, and mental space. I guide them in letting go of what no longer serves them so they can focus on what does - like spending time with loved ones and pursuing dreams. This work isn’t just about creating organized spaces; it’s about helping moms find peace, joy, and clarity in every area of their lives.

Embracing Minimalism: From Clutter to Conscious Living
After my marriage ended, I began a new chapter in a bright studio apartment. Downsizing from a five-bedroom house to a small, intentional space marked the start of my minimalist journey. Living minimally became a pathway to clarity, resilience, and renewed joy. The process of letting go - keeping only what truly mattered - allowed me to focus on my children and rebuild a meaningful life. As my two daughters and I were going through a major life change, I wanted to make sure that all my attention, energy and time was going towards helping my children process the divorce. I wanted to emotionally be there for them instead of spending my time on maintaining a bigger space. Our home was our haven not a source of stress during that challenging time. This journey inspired me to start The Minimalist, where I help moms create calm, functional homes that are intentional to the season of life they are in.
